NHS services are there for you when you need them. But many people are using urgent care services with health concerns that could be treated by a GP or pharmacist. This makes these services very busy and means you and others may have to wait longer to be treated.


The NHS is doing everything it can to prepare for the extra pressures and demands over the busy winter months.


You can #HelpMyNHS to give the best care by making sure you and your loved ones get the right care, at the right time, in the right place. This website helps you do this by highlighting where you can get medical treatment that is right for you. It includes details on the alternative services to A&E and GPs, along with tips on using of GP appointments properly, taking steps to help prevent getting ill and self-manage minor illnesses, as well as other services, such as pharmacists.


It is tailored to include listings on specific services available to you across Sussex and East Surrey.

In these unprecedented, uncertain times we, your team at Oxted Health Centre, want to update you on our current services.

 

First of all we would like to take the opportunity to thank all of you for being understanding, polite, and patient in your dealings with any practice staff.

 

We really have to work together in order to cope with the demands and challenges that we are currently facing and that undoubtedly lie ahead of us in the months to come.

 

In line with National Guidance we are operating a telephone triage system as your first port of call for any query that you think requires you to speak to a GP or urgent care practitioner.

 

Before you ring the surgery, please ask yourself whether you really need to speak to a doctor or whether you can manage your illness yourself; particularly if you have minor symptoms of a self-limiting illness.

 

You may want to look for advice about any symptoms on the NHS choices website or you could consider talking to a pharmacist in one of our local pharmacies.

 

In line with guidance from NHS England and the Royal College of General Practitioners we have suspended any routine medicals, insurance reports, non-urgent paperwork and DVLA medical examinations.

 

You may be asked to come to the surgery, if the doctor talking to you on the phone deems it necessary in order to deliver safe care to you.

 

The seating arrangements in the surgery have been changed to allow for social distancing.

 

Please request your repeat prescriptions online wherever possible or email us a prescription request. As a last resort you may request a prescription over the phone. We normally do not take telephone prescription requests in order to free up the telephone lines for other queries, but we acknowledge that you may need to request a prescription over the phone if you have no access to the internet.

 

We cannot honour repeat prescription requests that are requested too early, or requests for medication that you have not been prescribed for many years.

 

Unless we all adhere to this, we will create an avoidable national shortage of vital medicines for those of you that need them.

 

If your concern relates to Covid-19, please refer to the information available online about self-isolation and isolation of household members.

 

If you think you have a Covid-19 infection and

  • you feel you ​cannot cope with your symptoms
  • ​your symptoms have persisted for more than 7 days
  • you have become acutely unwell 
  • then please use NHS 111 online services to get further advice.

At Oxted Health Centre the doctors and nurses take pride in offering the highest standard of patient-centred healthcare.

We run many clinics for chronic disease care and offer a wide variety of other medical services such as antenatal and postnatal care, minor surgery and childhood vaccinations.

If we are closed and you have an urgent medical problem which cannot wait until the surgery re-opens please dial 111 to access the NHS 111 service. NHS 111 is free to call from both landlines and mobiles.
